আয়েল্টস টেস্টের ৪ টি সেকশনের মধ্যে রিডিং, রাইটিং এবং স্পিকিং সেকশনের জন্য অনেক বেশি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ হচ্ছে ভোকাবুলারীর জ্ঞান। অর্থাৎ বেশি বেশি ইংরেজি শব্দ জানা। এবার আসুন পর্যালোচনা করে দেখা যাক আয়েল্টস এর সেকশেনগুলোর মধ্যে কোনটিতে ভোকাবুলারীর অধিক প্রয়োজন হয়:
আয়েল্টস রাইটিং সেকশনের প্রশ্নে কোন নির্দিষ্ট টপিকের উপর নির্দিষ্ট শব্দ লিমিটেশনের মধ্যে লিখে বর্ননা করতে হয়। এক্ষেত্রে শব্দের জ্ঞান অপ্রত্যুল হলে একই শব্দের ব্যবহার বার বার হতে থাকে। যা লেখার সৌন্দর্য নষ্ট করে। কিন্তু যখন ওই লেখার মধ্যে একই শব্দ বার বার ব্যবহারের পরিবর্তে Synonymous শব্দ ব্যবহার করা হলে লেখার সৌন্দর্য বৃদ্ধি পায়। আর তাই রাইটিং সেকশনের জন্য ভোকাবুলারী অনেক বেশি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

উপরের রাইটিং দুটির মধ্যে কোনটি পড়তে আপনার কাছে ভাল লাগছে? যেটি একই শব্দের পুনরাবৃত্তি করা হয়েছে সেটি নাটি নিচের প্যাসেজটি যেখানে Synonymous শব্দ ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে।
আয়েল্টস পরীক্ষার রাইটিং সেকশনে ভোকাবুলারীর ব্যবহারের উপরে ২৫% মার্কস থাকে। যার মধ্যে Word এর Synonym- Antonym এবং Spelling mistake কাউন্ট করা হয়।
রাইটিং সেকশনের মতোই আয়েল্টস স্পিকিং টেস্টে কথা বলার সময় একই শব্দের পুনরাবৃত্তি না করে বরং বিভিন্ন Synonymous শব্দের ব্যবহার করতে হয়। কারন একই শব্দের বার বার ব্যবহার যেমন পড়তে ভাল লাগে না তেমনি শুনতেও তা শ্রুতি মধুর হয়। স্পিকিং সেকশনের ২৫% মার্কস থাকে ভোকাবুলারীর ব্যবহারের উপরে।
এছাড়াও অনেক সময় অনেক কঠিন বিষয়বস্তুকে সহজেই ব্যাখ্যা করা যায়। আর বিষয়বস্তু কঠিন হোক কিংবা সহজ কথা বলার সময় সহজভাবে ব্যাখ্যা করতে হলে ভোকাবুলারী জ্ঞান ছাড়া সম্ভব নয়।
আয়েল্টস রিডিং সেকশনের পরীক্ষায় বিশাল আকারের প্যাসেজ দেয়া থাকে। যেখান থেকে পড়ে তথ্য নিয়ে উত্তর করতে হয়। কিন্তু ভোকাবুলারী জানা না থাকলে প্যাসেজ এর অর্থ আবিষ্কার করা কঠিন হয়ে যাবে। ফলে প্যাসেজ পড়ে তার সেন্স বোঝা সম্ভব হবে না।
Example: For windmill blades, William cut some bath pipe in two lengthwise, then heated the pieces over hot coals to press the curled edges flat.
